I have never been so disappointed by a piece of audio visual entertainment in my life and I’ve seen “Megalodon”. If you have ever seen the original show which this “reboot” unjustly pilfers it’s name and reputation from you would be aware of the raw visceral thrills, spine tingling psychological drama and an overall brilliant execution of the craft of storytelling that only Rod Serling himself could serve up. The new series seems to rely on cheap, unengaging shock and suspense horror with plots that meander without any cohesive quality. This differs greatly from the tightly shot, deeply tension inducing and heavily cerebral thrills fans of the original came to know and love. Unfortunately - especially for the fans of the original program - this new version genuinely does not even come close to acceptable. Those who may be enticed to watch the 2019 series of The Twilight Zone expecting anywhere near the same caliber of entertainment would be best to just accept that The Twilight Zone died many years ago with Rod Serling lest being left with a bad taste in their mouth and asking “what happened in that hour I’ve just lost?” After all, someone once said about said zone - through closed teeth and while smoking a cigarette - “... it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.” Much to the chagrin of eager fans this Twilight Zone lies squarely in the minds of people who want to ride others coat-tails and make a quick buck. Somewhat akin to “rebooting” Les Miserables using the Kardashians as the cast. Sure people would watch it but at what cost? Sure I sound like a total troll ranting like this but if you plan on rebooting a series so many love so dearly at least try and do it justice.
