I shed tears after reading this gut-wrenching book. I do eat meat and so I have never come across a scene where the vegetarian is treated with disrespect when facing the family's brutal and forceful approach when feeding meat to the vegetarian. Han Kang writes about different perceptions; of the husband, the sister and the vegetarian herself. My emotions were anger, disappointment and unfairness. Kang's words make the vegetarian poetic when she refuses to eat and describes her vessel be one with nature.

This book is about mourning; it is about a piece of history, the tigers are but individuals that stood up for its Nation. We are in a journey were death and the emotion is explored. When reading this book I am feeling sad and angry that Tamilians have gone through so much. Their journey like this book should be a discussion. Thanks to the author's words I felt like I was travelling with the main character.

Multiple essays on sex. After reading it, I gained a sense of clarity. An example I can think of is the sexual relationship between a tutor and his/her tutees. It made me understand the thoughts and process of why this is a stereotype in movies and a heavy secret bearer in someone's life. This book deserves another read as it touches on misunderstanding the meaning of sex and attraction, it certainly requires broad discussion and education.

The author did a fantastic job of making all the scenes as raw as possible. The main character's memoir when preparing for war felt emotional and he was certain he could die in the field. I have not yet read about a man brutally losing his mother. I was with him during his exchange with his enemy, his guilt over his brother's death and his distance in the family was normal but lacking. The best description is that a strong shell that is the body of a grown man and also has soft tenderness impulses him, which is brilliant to read about.
