This is a plodding trudge to a frankly predictable reveal. Every time I heard Daniel Craig’s attempt at a southern drawl, I couldn’t help but think of Kevin Spacey’s in House of Cards and how much better Spacey would have been in the role. Ana de Armas’ performance is adequate but unspectacular. Christopher Plummer’s character is the high point, but as the deceased, his role is limited to one extended flashback and a few limited ones. And the rest of the cast, after their initial introductions as the players and their relationship to the deceased, had little screen time. Die hard fans of classic who-done-its obviously love this movie, but for the rest of us, wait until it’s available on your favorite streaming service so you can doze in the comfort of your easy chair and wake up in time for its overdue conclusion.
