I’ve known about “The Next Step” for a very long time now, and quite frankly, I don’t mind it. Season 1 to 3 I believe were the best seasons - everything just felt natural and enjoyable. The acting, though targeted at children, didn’t feel too cheesy and I felt like I could watch it without getting second hand embarrassment. Personally, I did find some scenes which were over exaggerated to be quite cringey to watch. However, they weren’t too terrible. Season 4 is when it started getting repetitive and and boring. The introduction of new characters and moving up old characters to play a different roll of profession made this specific season really dragging to watch. And the fact that there are 40 twenty minute episodes which practically reuses some of the old plots from previous seasons really solidifies the lack of order and creativity from the writers. From this stage, most next step viewers would be able to recognise that the show is being continued because it can be capitalised upon, and not because of love the creators have for it.
I’ve also watched season 5 and 6. Season 5 is literally the most pointless thing to ever exist; I really didn’t understand the incredibly childish rivalry that definitely didn’t need to happen (but it did so we have to deal with it anyways lol). Moving on, season 6 just felt a bit unrealistic. I mean I don’t expect it to be realistic it’s a kids show for goodness sake, but I don’t know. It was nothing special. At this moment, I’m currently watching season 7. Though I’ve only watch the first episode, I can already feel like it’s going to be mediocre. It’s just too cheesy and child-like, I feel like everything has just gone down hill since the end of Season 3. I find that I’m being reasonable here, right?
