Lazy writing. Also very dated sexist, bigoted and misogynistic themes starting a little over half ways through that set a gross tone for the second half of the book. How the author is progressive with the subject of police brutality and lack of police training, yet very behind the times on the subject of gender fluidity left me feeling confused at time period her book was set. Not something as a reader I want to question more than halfway done with the book. Just bad writing.
