If you’re a fan of the original franchise, then you shouldn’t watch this movie. They deviate substantially in terms of the chronology and major facts that drive the three original movies in the franchise. And honestly, these deviations weren’t necessary and led to the movie trying to do too much.
The original omen has Damien being born on June 6, 1966. For some reason, this movie moves his year of birth to 1971. Others have noted that in the original, Damien’s mother was a jackal. In this version, the father was some unearthly being that took the shape of a man at the club…
The original has the jackal mother giving birth to Damien in a hospital where he is handed off immediately to the Thorns. In the original, Damien’s jackal mother is buried in a grave with a gunshot wound to the head. The Thorns’ real baby is buried right next to her. However, in this version, Damien is born at the parsonage and his mother escapes with his fraternal twin sister. The original makes no mention of a girl offspring.
The idea of a girl Antichrist comes up in the fourth horrible installment of the original franchise. The fourth installment was horrible because like this one, it was disjointed and lacked any of the depth of the first two movies.
The positives: Although it moved really slow, the cinematography and effects were really good. If you must see it, I would say to go in with an open mind, without any expectations that it will have any resemblance to the original franchise. On its own it’s a decent flick, as a prequel to the franchise, it’s a disappointment.
