I had a feeling I was reading one of the Russian classics. The plot was wonderful with an unexpected twist for the ending. To avoid comments as ignoring a big social strata, apart from the lidership of the Bolsheviks, the main protagonist is for decades ,under house arrest in the Hotel Metropol , just across Kremlin. Deprived of his family's estate, the journey he is going through to adapt to the restricted circumstances is enriched by the opportunity to not just overcome the present, but develop his emotional well-being and that of others.
