Let me say first that the movie isn’t horrible, but I was really disappointed in it. I wasn’t going to leave a review, but I’m watching the movie again and feel compelled to do so this time. Sadly, I have to say that if you’re thinking about watching this movie, then by all means go ahead— but you might as well just watch the first one.
I adore horror movies, and Scream is my second favorite horror franchise of all time— so I was pretty excited when this movie came out, however I was confused as to why they didn’t just call it “Scream 5,” and after watching it I was even more so bothered that they didn’t considering (spoiler alert) it’s VERY similar to the first one just with a few minor changes and new characters.
I’m not the kind of person that nagged about new people being introduced, except I do agree with most people that Neve Campbell should’ve been the lead considering the whole basis of this franchise revolves around her and, additionally, her friends. Not to mention that they made Neve, Courtney, and David the big picture on the movie posters, teasers, etc. which would cause anyone that hasn’t seen the movie to believe that it would once again be her story.
I guess what I’m saying is if they wanted to introduce new lead characters then maybe the story in this film could’ve been a little more original and creative… and not in a cheesy way. That’s more or less where my disappointment stemmed from.
