Unique and beautiful prose. The plot is taciturn and gripping whilst also moving back and forth through time seamlessly. The Sparrow reminds me of Ray Bradbury and Terry Pratchett writings with a dash of H.G. Wells; it's excellent. Hard topics are tackled, but my favorite bit as someone else mentioned, is that the book demonstrates that sometimes bad things happen to good people. There is no rhyme or reason; no "they were too good for this earth" BS. It's just...life. Additionally, written in the '90s, the precariousness of technology, specifically AI and space conquest, are explored incredibly accurately and the insight is eerie, almost gives one a feeling of a foreboding foretelling. It made me take a look at our current world differently, through the lens of this novel.
Thank you MDR! Great read, this is now one of my favorites that I'll pass on to my children when they're old enough.
