If you’re a fan of the original, don’t see this remake. Disney gutted the main themes of the movie and didn’t give it the necessary budget to hire decent actors or put any care into the editing. At one point when Nani was supposed to be petting Stitch, her hand literally hovered over him because they didn’t bother to make the CGI fur look like it was being touched. SPOILERS: The commentary on tourists treating locals like an attraction is GONE, as is Lilo’s obsession with taking their photos. And Nani leaving Lilo with a trusted family friend so she could go to college would have made sense IF they had her go to the local university. Leaving Lilo to go to the other side of the world for school is the opposite of Ohana. And the worst crime this movie commits? Ruining my favorite character, Jumba, by making him the villain just because the creators didn’t feel like doing the CGI to include Gantu. All this being said, the little girl who played Lilo did great. It’s too bad the rest of the cast didn’t have the talent to support hers. The acting quality is something I’d expect from a straight-to-streaming movie.
