So, though I never let negative reviews sway me from seeing a movie I am looking forward to, based on the insane negativity and bashing this movie was receiving, I was fully prepared to go into the theater with the mentality of, hey it's under two hours, so if it sucks, it was a one time viewing, move on.
However, I was completely dumbfounded… by how utterly amazing it was! I am speechless and unable to figure out where all the negativity was coming from! The story, though obviously changed and altered a bit from the comics (a process standard with any adaptation) was well written and well plotted out. The characters were well developed, the acting, totally believable and well done. I actually found myself legit caring about what happened to the characters, something I admittedly struggle with, with most films and series.
The action was intense, heart pounding and well choreographed. And, an important note, being the fact that this was a PG-13 vampire film, this could have missed the mark. But the director and production team knew exactly where to put the cameras, how long to hold the takes on the violence, and where to cut, so that the audience knew exactly what was going on, but it didn't feel toned down, something I definitely feel like Venom and Let There Be Carnage suffered from.
The music, from the very opening, to the end was intense and mood inducing.
Even the mid credits scenes with Vulture were really good… I have zero idea where that negativity towards those stemmed from. Look bottom line, the rules on the multiverse at this point have only very loosely been established, and hasn't it already been clearly stated, with the multiverse, virtually anything is possible?!
What else can I say? The movie was awesome. The original Spider Man trilogy was great, I LOVED TASM 1 and 2. Venom was thoroughly enjoyable. I felt Let there be Carnage was ok, though lacking and flawed. But Morbius hit the mark perfectly. Greatly looking forward to future Sony Spider-verse projects. Sony, keep up the good work. Take this film as the foundation for how to build your spider-verse and run with it!
