Audience reviews Filter by All Profile image Andy Summers 3 years ago This is a classic disaster movie from 1974 that is hardly dated with technical skill of production visual effects of matte paintings to give the on screen visual of a catastrophic EARTHQUAKE in the 7 region lasting for ten minutes in SENSURROUND that was a new way of bring deep first sub bass to the cinema that did it so well even thou its a sound generator with pluses pilot tone signals on the film print to trigger the SENSURROUND MOD box to activate signal that sounds generally like (filtered pink noise) with some fluctuation of the signal and the sense of looking all around in the auditorium. The performances are fine with story being told by the Grafs, with a marriage on the rocks. To a cop that doesn't want to be anymore as he feels like he should be helping the people. To dam caretaker people to the seismologists the story is nicely written with the award winner visual effects that may seem dated but look closely at the main Quake it has so much detail happening in it. The films photography is colorfully nice with natural skin tones on the early bluray release. With this played at home on x101 JBL system with 20kw THX sound system, Its like getting a flashback from 1974, thou saw it at the ABC Bournemouth screen 1 (now closed). The rumble rumbles but luckily it doesn't shake side to side like a real Quake that would cause a lot of damage. I can understand the "safety-net" being hung above the Chinese theater, as corners in the auditorium and other parts are going to be very heavily enhanced with low frequencies resonating and loosening plaster. You don't want do that in the home and have the ceiling falling on you? :D I give EARTHQUAKE a solid 10 out of 10, nope not giving it 7 out of 10 a 10 out of 10 since this is a classic with cult following SENSURROUND fans EARTHQUAKE is Wow.
