I watched this film for the 2nd time this evening to decide if it was as depressing as I had remembered. Most of the scenes are unpleasant. What can a viewer enjoy, learn or gain after spending two hours watching a family of three find fault with each other in a small apartment. The performances by all were excellent making it a difficult film to watch and then feel well. What was the point of this story ?

The novel by Gerald A. Browne was an excellent book containing many interesting facts about the diamond industry. The story was intense at times but well done with moments of humor. This film was in contrast a silly series of events with a much too long car chase. I can only guess at the authors outrage if he did see the film. I am now contacting a local library in hopes of reading this novel again.
