The film reminds me of Pirandello's exploration of the fourth wall convention in the theater. He has his actors play both a character and 'themselves'. It becomes impossible to know the difference which of course is the point. Certainly the idea of a social/public persona is very familiar living in theocracy such as Iran. Sometimes schizophrenia is a survival mechanism. In this film it plays out on a much more personal level . But the social tropes are there in every culture. The key to watching this film is not to try and 'figure it out' just look and reflect.
