I was one of the people that woke up early for the premier of what became Nobody. After that I was confused and honestly a bit worried about the direction of this album, especially because of the influences Matt kept citing for this album. We Love You came and I was again confused but more pleasantly because I could kind of see what they were doing.
Fast forward to 2 days before the release. I was going to bed when I came across a leak of the album on YouTube. Immediately got my best headphones, sat on the couch and just embraced it. One the first listen I was hooked on all the songs. Every song drew you in and you were looking forward to what was coming next in the next measure. By the end I was totally floored. I keep putting it on which is something I haven’t done with A7X since self titled, and it keeps getting better somehow. This album isn’t for everyone that is clear. But it is a massive breathe of fresh air and maybe that’s what draws me to it, it’s unique, totally left field, yet it all works and it sounds just like your typical A7X album.
Stand outs for me are Game Over, Mattel, Nobody, Beautiful Morning, Ordinary, Death.
I waited to mention Cosmic because it’s perfect. There is nothing that you can change to make it better. Matt channeled the Revs lyrical writing somehow and we all won. It has the same emotion and heaviness as something like Fiction. If anything just listen to this song and I hope you’ll understand.
Stand out album, sound out songs, stand out band. Listen to it!
