I have watched this movie many times over the years and even now I picked up on a nuance I had missed in the past. The story is well written and performed brilliantly. You will walk away thinking, a bit sad, a bit angry, and frustrated that this is still an issue. This movie helps in understanding what lies beneath the surface that plays a large part in what we see above the surface. As long as we keep telling the same storylines and character roles being presented with the same outlined stereotype, these issues will be ingrained in our subconscious and awake as a natural default reaction, until we learn something different. To those that hated this film, maybe you need to look a little under the surface in your own storyline. Our go-to feeling needs to not be from a place of fear.
