I am forever looking for "new" Lovecraft style material to read or watch in various media. I was excited about "Lovecraft Country" on HBO, but it was uneven and, despite my liking many of the elements, including the underpinning social message it was carrying, I found the final product to be wanting. Not so with "Southern Gods," which kept its slow, languid, pot-boiler pace for most of the novel. The end was a mixed bag for me, because I feel the writer was too pressed to tie up events, but that said, there were exquisite elements to the novel that make it worth reading and then picking up again in five years.
