The acting was good (Pascal, Wiig, and Gadot) but the writing was abysmal. Scenes were incredibly disjointed, Chris Pine's inclusion in the movie was completely unnecessary and could have shaved an hour off the runtime without sacrificing anything (if not immediately making the story better).
This movie lacks both the well scripted action scenes for WW and the score to back them up. They had the entirety of the 80's to pull from and the score from the first movie, and it gave us a completely forgettable soundtrack instead. Diana lacks any scene that makes me feel like she's a badass Demigoddess and instead is almost completely passive the entire movie.
The writing tries to set up interesting stakes for the main villain and completely fails to do so. Pascal's acting isn't the issue, he does a great job with the script he was given. Wiig's character is more interesting but they paint some of her actions in a misogynist light that really takes you away from the story. Gadot does well, but the writing seems to have made Diana into a sad, lonely woman who is just going through the motions because she doesn't have the one man she lost almost 70 years ago.
There are so many overused tropes in this movie that I can't even list them all and they're applied in such a way that they are immediately and eye-rollingly obvious.
It's been a long time since a movie made me legitimately angry after I watched it, but WW84 managed it with its intellectually offensive and sometimes misogynist plot. Overall incredibly disappointing since I went into it desperately wanting to love it.
Maybe get drunk and watch it, but don't expect anything.
