A truly unique spectacle, Mortal Engines could have been a trilogy but luckily was a stand-alone movie that simply asks the viewer to imagine and infer the more mundane details of this vibrant post-apocalyptic world. This one will stand the test of time, and anyone who took it at face-value the first time around will discover the depth that they missed on their next viewing. Again, it could have been dragged out ad nauseam, but this one huge hit is a welcome relief in a world of sequels, series and parallels, and doesn't miss a beat if you are willing to play along.
