Do not watch this movie if you’ve read the book…it’s utterly unwatchable in comparison. The book is moving, descriptive, insightful, nuanced, beautifully written and portrays the emotions alongside the story in a way that makes you never want to put it down. The film on the other hand, is an absolute bore that strips the characters down to empty shells you couldn’t care less about. I couldn't believe these were the same beloved characters on screen. Daniel Day Lewis is the blandest Newland you could ever imagine, and his eyes being constantly teary was very irritating because I believe it to be inaccurate characterisation. Would not recommend this film…unless you haven’t read the book and are looking for something boring to pass the time.

What a wonderful film. Witty, intelligent, emotive and funny!! Absolutely loved it and encompassed so many good things already outlined in many other reviews! This was a pleasure to watch

25 minutes in and this film is giving me vertigo and making me sleepy. I appreciate artistry as much as anyone but why am I watching a ridiculous close up of a knife with frosting being wiped off??? This is too deep of a story to overshadow with pretentious cinematography, and this is unfortunately what’s happened here. I don’t think I can last another 5 minutes - so disappointed

I am painfully trying to keep my eyes open watching season two. The pacing is slow, the acting is middling (and downright horrible if we’re talking about Common), and the plot lines are so thin and contrived that you find yourself rooting for no one and feeling nothing. Any attempt at emotion exposes that most of the cast don’t have the ability to portray it convincingly, and while I do think Rebecca Ferguson is a great actress, her stoic, one dimensional portrayal of the character makes it almost impossible to warm to her, although you still vaguely want her to succeed. I’m very annoyed I’m the type of person who has to finish something I started, otherwise I would have quit this snooze fest mid season one.

This film is the worst thing I’ve watched in decades. The singing was awful. The plot messy and pandering to the ‘woke’ population. I don’t necessarily care what a film is about, as long as it’s executed well, I can get on board. This was so badly done without a redeemable element to it, that I just cannot believe the hype surrounding it. The fact it won a golden globe is truly embarrassing, even though Zoe’s performance was good. I believe it ended up looking excellent because everyone else was so terrible. I can’t speak to the Mexican experience watching this film, but I can empathise with what I imagine they are feeling because it was painful to watch, even as a Londoner.

So confused by the 5 star reviews. This was the most infuriating thing to watch. I’ve never seen someone make a series of bad decisions so obviously avoidable. It would be great if we all had a plethora of people willing to help us and clean up our self afflicted mess. Unfortunately, real life doesn’t work like that and I was under the impression that this wasn’t a fantasy drama? Even though her limitless parental patience and miraculous good luck made it feel like it was. Waste of my time, but it’s my own fault for persisting to watch hoping it might get better. It didn’t.
