I watched "Barbie" with my teenage daughter and enjoyed parts of it, especially Kate McKinnon and Dua Lipa; and there is a fair amount of funny plot development, and some clever dialog. But the whole Ken subplot was tedious and very heavy-handed, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. The elements didn't seem to go together: is it a goofy comic fantasy or a musical comedy or a you-go-girl female empowerment allegory? For me, the movie failed to live up to its reputation, but my teenager loved it.
