This movie was a big flop and a huge disappointment. Marketed as the final confrontation between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. Yeah for the final 15 minutes of the runtime. As much as I loved Michael in the last two Halloween films, I can’t say I like him in Halloween Ends. He is completely different from Halloween Kills. At the end of Halloween Kills, Michael was a force of evil. Laurie states that “the more he kills, the more he transcends into something impossible to defeat”. He kills an entire mob of people in Halloween Kills. In this film, he is living underground in a tunnel and he is weak. When Corey finds himself in the tunnel, Michael chokes him and gives him his evil powers? I can’t believe I am watching this “boogeyman” give his evil powers to someone. This is when the film gets ridiculous. Up until this point, I was enjoying it. Later in the film, we see Corey and Michael team up to kill a doctor and his assistant. Why am I seeing this? This is so off from the original intent for this character. Michael Myers is purely and simply evil. He shouldn’t team up with anyone. Michael is also weak in the film. That is a big departure from the last film where Michael was basically a force of evil. Although Halloween Ends has some good acting and directing, it fails in the writing department. This film introduces and focuses on a new character. In my opinion, establishing Corey Cunningham as the main character doesn't work in the final film of this trilogy. We did need a new character but making him the focus of this entire film was a huge mistake. The timing feels way off for this film. This film would have made more sense to be the film at the beginning of this trilogy. There would have been more time to build this character up. There is also a time jump between Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends which I don't think was necessary. In my opinion, Halloween Kills should have been the final film in the series. This film takes so much time building up the Corey Cunningham character. The filmmakers end up using Corey’s suicide as a plot device to get the final showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. You could take the final act of this film and put it at the end of Halloween Kills and it would work. There is no reason to watch this film.
