Such a shame I am a huge JW fan & adored the girls series being 34 now I was delighted when I found out this book was coming out was looking forward to a nostalgic catch up with the girls however this just fell completely flat. Firstly Ellie annoyed me I found her character childish & annoying/ insecure it felt as though for a strong professional woman who raised her daughter on her own she had not matured at all or had any sense of who she really was or what she wanted.
At parts I had to stop reading where I found her so childish and annoying.
For Jaqueline Wilson a master author I found the writing very flat & predictable the story felt very weak lacking depth & rushed in many places with unfinished story lines in my opinion. Don’t get me stared on the wasted paragraphs about African elephants or Ellie’s cat or the cousin that no one remembers or cares for leaving Ellie flowers etc space in the book that could of been used finishing off Nadine’s story.
I enjoyed the book and finished it just because it was the Girls series but left feeling is that it? I really hope JW brings out another one to finish off Ellie’s & her friends story because this just didn’t do it for me.
