This is a fun confection if you allow for the healthy suspension of disbelief that others have mentioned. Patel and James are charming and loveable and he's a convincing singer. Not to spoil anything, but the movie's big question is whether they'll ultimately get together. He's completely clueless about her feelings, but, more importantly, they both seem sort of sexless and one can't really imagine them consummating the deal if it does happen. I'm going to be negative on a couple more points. I found Kate McKinnon's character to be completely over the top and annoying. Secondly, I personally find shlubby Ed Sheeran's music to be insipid and vapid. This movie essentially tells us why. It's the product of a marketing department, not his soul. In trying to coach the main character, he wants him to change the words to Hey Dude instead of, well you know. That's the level of his contribution. I'm surprised that Sheeran didn't realize that this movie is basically showing him to be an uncreative corporate shill, albeit a very wealthy one. I liked the movie and recommend it. Just don't go in expecting Trainspotting or Slumdog Millionaire or 28 Days Later.
