As a stand-alone movie it was pretty good, as the finale in a trilogy it was horrendous. It was pretty obvious halfway through the movie that neither JJ or Rian had sat down to map out a story arc for the final trilogy. Huge missed opportunities, returning characters coming out of nowhere. I mean the emperor has been hiding out all this time with the “final order” even the name tells you they are clutching at straws. Why would Palpatine create a new empire just to sit there waiting for Rey and Kylo to arrive?? It would have been a better movie to have the empire fight it out with the first order whilst Rey and Kylo battle it out with Palpatines new apprentices’s. For that to work they would have had to introduce some of this in TLJ. Overall if you haven’t got the best attention span you would probably love it. Die hard fans looking for a pay off will be hugely disappointed.
