the story is really good, but the cheesy acting and bad visual effects make it feel more like a Nickelodeon movie than a Netflix original. the characters were cute and likeable but the dialogue was unnatural and awkward. the whole found footage setup is not done well at all - they went way overboard with cheesy effects trying to make the footage seem more creepy, like static-y cuts during slightly intense scenes where it really doesn't make sense. it's not like the police found tapes in the woods or something, it's sd card videos taken on a professional camera. and it was a really dumbed-down way to present witchcraft, there was only one ritual performed eland everything else was just done through chanting in unison. that was pretty boring. I guess for kids it's a good movie but I really expected better from Netflix. it had a lot of good elements and potential but not enough effort or budget. the ending seemed like a setup for a sequel, so I hope if they make one they do a way better job with it.
