As a former Marine F4 Fighter RIO, A USAF F4 WSO and F105G EWO, I have flown with some of the best (and a few of the worst) fighter pilots in the world. I know the difference. I have also participated in some of the funniest (and often raunchiest) bar acts with many fighter pilots and fighter backseaters. Steve Ladd has written a wonderful book that captures the fighter pilot ethos, and required macho self-image. If you are good you can talk about it. Flying a fighter is not for the weak of heart and faint of mind.
Steve and I were fraternity brothers. Sadly, I have not seen him since 1968. He maintains his sense of humor and is a superb story teller.
Buy this book! It is a story of one lucky Air Force officer's career. It is not a shoot'em up story. Have fun reading it. I guarantee you will grin and even laugh at loud at some of Col. Ladd's stories (before PC guttted the fighter community).
