Spoilers ahead !!!! Saulnier has always pleased his audience with twisted , high end violence and his understanding of the human nature. Hold the dark takes it to the next level. Although it got negative reviews initially, owing to it confusing style of narration and mindless violence, it sure is a good watch if you understand all the obscured messages throughout the movie. Vernon and Medora resemble people living at the edge of humanity. They represent wolves, and all their actions are easily comparable to the likes of them. For example, medora killed her child just like the wolves mauled their own puppy. Action scenes were quite good, although almost all involved police getting butchered. This again portrays the instinct of a wolves who do not accept authority of any outsider(since the police was from an neighboring town.). In the end, vernon spares Russell, just like the wolves spared him twice in the movie, showing compassion. In a nutshell, this movie was really well directed, although very confusing, but worth the watch. You might need to read the explanation after the movie, but it will amaze you once you get know everything.
