Absolutely phenomenal. As an immigrant from Guyana, I connected deeply with this beautifully written literature. I was able to see so clearly through the eyes of Patsy and Tru--to feel what they were feeling. Against the background of my own life and experiences, it was a surreal, even unnerving experience. Be warned, you may struggle to hold back tears, not knowing whether they are tears of relief and release or pure sadness; but you will be captured by Nicole Dennis-Benn’s mastery of language that straddles two wholly different worlds. With every page, I wanted more—filled with a burning desire to know how this story would end.
I have never written a book review, but here I am feeling compelled to share that YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. *Folks from the Caribbean will surely enjoy these piece.*
I will agree that the beginning and middle sections of the book seemed long in comparison to the end, or resolution. The end was 20/420 pages. I felt the ending was wonderful, but there's a part of me that wants more.
