Met Fan since 1968

I don't think this movie is controversial, it's just not very good. I think the most important aspect of this movie is to watch it and think of how you would rewrite the screenplay to make the movie better or how to edit the movie so it is better--because starting with Rosie Perez dancing for 4 minutes screems "student film." Spike missed the perfect opportunity to start with just a title slide and then cut to Sam Jackson saying "Wake up" because that immediately states a theme. All the character introductions needed to be made much quicker. The first 30 minutes of this film could be cut down to 10. I need to watch this with Spike, so he can explain what point he was trying to make. But I do like the line "Yo Sal, how come you don't got no brothers on the wall" which I yell every time I go into a pizzeria.

As someone with a masters degree in literature, I have a fairly high bordum threshold, but I could not finish this movie. With an hour and eight minutes left I thought, "Unless there are 40 minutes of credits, I don't see how they are going to fill up this amount of time" and stopped watching. Almost every scene is twice as long as it needs to be. For example: the scene where DeNiro tries to convince Pacino that's he's going to get whacked if he keeps up his pursuit of union leadership. They just keep saying the same thing over and over again. I wanted to tell, "Get on with it!" "Goodfellas" was quick paced and suspenseful. This movie just dragged.
