I thought there was a big generation gap in the 1960's: we boomers thought our parents didn't understand the times. That was largely true and as a result generation X and the Millennials talked a lot more. The gap seemed to shrink, greater understanding and empathy.
But all of a sudden the gap is bigger than ever for a large number of families. A few fortunate parents are educated by their children, some parents are persistent in their endeavours to understand the pressures on Generation Z. But they are a minority.
This epic drama showed the chasm in understanding....and not just kids and their parents. Teachers and their pupils, the police and teenagers. Technology is largely to blame: phones, the internet and the cess pit of much of social media.
Sorry, the review should be about the drama.
So well acted, brilliantly filmed - fulsome praise to all involved. The script had its faults....the school scenes and the drive to Wainwrights too long, but that was counterbalanced by the excellence of episodes 1 and 3. They were such a damn good watch!
So thanks to the writers, you have undoubtedly been spot on with the choice of drama for the age we live in. Well done to the producers for the pace & intensity of every episode. The film crew were superb, the camera angles and the way the film lingered at times was captivating.
And the acting, as good as it gets. Magnificent throughout, everyone played their part so well. Awards will come your way.
Netflix, I salute you.
