Mike Flanagan’s horror series always look great. They are usually an interesting take on a well-worn genre. And, they always have atmosphere, which I love. But! The sheer volume of indulgent, often overly sentimental dialogue we are subjected to is tedious. This is a visual medium. I found myself skipping through a lot of the dialogue because it didn’t do anything to push the story forward. It felt like a delaying tactic. It looks great, there’s lots to enjoy but it ultimately disappointed.
