If you’re in the mood for a heartwarming, romantic and picturesque drama then “Potato Peel” fits the bill perfectly.
However, should cliché-ridden characters irritate, perhaps steering clear is advisable.
The roll-call seems endless; a pretty but restless budding author, her rich American boyfriend/ fiancé who isn’t quite handsome enough to be the leading man; his rugged, earthy and sensitive love rival; a narrow- minded, gossipy landlady, and to cap it all, a spindly, sneaky- looking Guernsey local who turns out be an untrustworthy traitor. Oh yes, and of course the one, just one, kind and good German soldier.
All that said, the production, performances and direction still provide a pleasant and interesting experience. Just don’t expect to be dazzled by a challenging storyline.
