*major spoilers* i can appreciate the artwork that went into this game, it's beautiful and cinematic. i can't imagine all of the time and effort they've put into this game to make it as visually pleasing as possible. the game play also wasn't bad but nothing to freak out over either. that being said, that's the only positive thing i have to say. this game has been about storytelling the second you started the first game. after waiting so many year, it genuinely blows my mind that they decided to release this as is. the characters are so untrue to their nature. joel has always been cautious, alongside ellie and tommy. tommy gave away the town and it's name within a matter of seconds for no reason and joel doesn't even think twice about it. tommy says his name then joel says his and looks around clueless as they all look at them. joel NEVER would've done that. he has always been untrusting, determinded, and would never go somewhere unknown without having a way out. the death scene and after is so disappointing. it felt disrespectful and left a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the game. it was such an unnecessarily brutal death but also only lasted a minute. i know me and many other people had to take a break from the game because they killed him awfully, then made you move on within minutes. dying by a golf club by strangers within the first couple hours wasn't thought through. ellie letting abby go was single-handedly the most terrible plot line i have seen in a game. she went through killing so many people, ruining a city just to decide to spare her. why? because she had a sob story? that is so unlike her. that girl murdered her father figure right in front of her face as she begged her not to and did nothing to her. i do understand what they were trying to do, it's a shocking thing to kill the main character that everyone's grown attached to. a good example of this is the walking dead when they killed lee. it was sad and gut wrenching but it was okay because of how they went about it. you cannot kill a main charater with such brutality and quickness and expect people to be okay with it. i felt bad for playing the game. they turned the players into the villains, as if we were a terrible person to try to avenge a murderer. it felt as if their intention was to make you feel bad and that joel was an awful person. he did everything he had for sarah and ellie, for young children. trying to guilt us for defending a man like that makes me dislike the company as a whole. for the people who are giving it five stars and mad at us who rate it so low, remember. we're not mad about his death, we're mad about the execution. for that, i simply cannot give this game anything above one star.
