Fantastic film. The interplay between landscape and character is poetic, and it reminded me of some of the movies made by the brothers Coen (Fargo, No Country for Old Men). So of course, McDormand was the perfect choice for the lead, and her performance is mesmerizing. A wonderful, deeply human and humane, actress that gives us so much of herself. Also, I think I caught a homage to the famous scene with Hedy Lamarr in the movie Ekstase (1933). I am referring to the scene where Fern bathes in some kind of lake or spring. If I'm right, then all the more respect to the director for being steeped in film history.
