Never a dull moment. Great dialogue and superb camera work, clearly inspired a bit by Citizen Kane.

A great movie to enjoy on a lazy Sunday morning. This movie’s pacing is perhaps better suited for a European audience. Still, I was able to sit patiently and enjoy some of the best camera shots and directing magic from the silver screen.

Finally, writers and producers have realized how to turn comic books into live action series. The Penguin did not insult anybody’s intelligence and scientific knowledge. It had an acceptable political bent that made the characters more relatable. Every great story is a love story. This one is a love story that wobbles till the end, permeates and ultimately supersedes carnal love to put Mr. Cobbs back to the edge of madness, where all most of gotham underworld thrive. It’s a perfect show.

January 18th, 2001, I stumbled upon this old and dusty book from a nightstand in a room where I was allowed to remain for 7 days while waiting for my traveling papers. Shogūn. I didn’t know what it was about. Luckily, I didn’t read the synopsis (which is how books and movies are probably meant to be experienced). I fell into the highly nuanced world of violence, deception, and greed in a deceptively simple feudal landscape of the Japans. The book is perhaps the best I’ve read. The 2024 series is probably the closest adaptation of the book possible. I was only mildly disappointed in the casting of two characters. Please read the book. You won’t be disappointed.

I appreciate the movie for its texture, the scenery, the details, and the storyline. Several actors exaggerated a bit, as if they were performing in a theater. This is a good movie. I would give it a 75% rating.

When I think of James Bond, I think of a smart, funny, womanizer, not too bulky, aloof guy, playing with death, and using very bad puns. This movie was more like mission impossible (Tom Cruise version). The movie looked low-budget. The stunts and the actors were great… The story makes no sense… The introductory song sounded too much like the song from Skyfall. I understand that it’s a business and the shareholders have to come up with a “package”, but where is the art in that? But I wish we could go back to the times of Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

The show has a retro feel to it; and you can sense that the animators were allowed to run loose with their ideas and turn this story into a masterpiece, rivaling some of the best 80’s and 90’s cartoons. The nuances and contexts in the peripheries of the storyline are edgy! I’d gladly give it a 98 out of 100
