The one star is for visuals. I was looking forward to this movie as I have read the books several times and the director had said he wanted to remain true to the novell. Not even close. Where to begin: Lady Jessica is portrayed as perpetually afraid and on the verge of panic; not the regal almost stoic concubine of a great Duke who also has the Bene Gesserit training and control. Thufir Hawat is a mentat but you would not know that from the movie or what a mentat actually is, much less why mentats exist. Dr Yueh has a diamond on his forehead but you would have no idea what that represents as it is never explained even though it is central to his betrayal. Spacing Guild; barely a mention. Emperor just a mention. Irulan and Feyad apparently don't exist in this movie. Paul has been trained since birth to lead a Great House but is played like confused teenager. Zendaya looks like she should be on the cover of the Arrakis version of teen magazine. Poor choice to play Chani. Liet Kynes is portrayed as an unimportant stooge of the Emperor. Paul kills Janus but gives no "water to the dead" as in the novel, missing the opportunity to demonstrate the importance of water which is hammered home time and again in the book. The Firemen repeatedly appear unmasked in the desert, something a Fremen would never do. I could go on but you get the point. If you never read the book I guess it would be an ok but confusing movie. If you have read the book the blatant omissions and departures from the novel are glaring.
