'The Boy and the Heron' is the best of this anime film maker's many creations, most enjoyable one, surly. Hayao Miyazaki's final message of anti-war...? using animation as a magical tool and take us his usual fantasy world. But this 2 hrs big work seems to be the farfarwell masterpiece of 82 years old director - like Martin Scoserge 'Killers of the Flower Moon'.
Yes, in the same way, both are very powerful, almost missionary effort to deliver their passion for the world of cinema to the universal scale of his fan club and even the outside of the club audiences before the retirement.
'The Boy' is, of course Miyazaki himself as a war time child and 'The Heron' is also another part of himself as his other part of unhappy/suffering nature, maybe.
This is not an animation film for the kids but if young children who are brought by their parent(s), they would be the lucky ones.
There is no children in the the cinema when I saw this film though...
