The trailer for this movie had an upbeat character with hints of something darker, but it was a musical, and looked romantic, so I thought, "why not"? So MANY REASONS why not! It was very theatric, there was certainly drama, there were puppets in place of a child for inexplicable reasons, which lent a creepiness factor that was not necessary, since the whole movie pretty much went down that alley on its own. If you are hoping for an uplifting film, this ain't it. Worse than LaLaLand for what you think you are getting vs what you end up with at the end. If you love Greek Theater (think tragedy with lots of choruses) then you will love this thing. Objectively, the acting was great, the music mostly good (very catchy opening number; still stuck in my head). To be fair, my reaction is partly biased on the many triggers this movie contains.
