PS1 is a fantastic period film done in mani ratnam style. This film(Hindi version) only caters to cinema lovers who were bored by the same old baahubali inspired cliched war scenes and aesthetics. Bahubali where is a spectacle, PS1 on the flip side is a superb “story” which I believe is its usp. This is obviously taken from the novel and the film feels like one. The sets, action, cinematography, acting everything is done in a natural look which is refreshing because it is realistic. From the very first scene you have to remember the names of the characters and places because they are important and they are unconventional especially for the Hindi audiences. Hence the outcry about being incomprehensible. I was riveted by the storyline and didn’t realise that the movie was almost three hours. A bit disappointed in ar rahman though because the music is okayish and i know that his songs grow on you. Very less layering done on the background score. So overall i would say if you love cinema and enjoy good and a bit complex movies this is your treat. This is definitely not a mindless entertainer and you have invest your mind for three hours into this to actually appreciate it fully. Standout for me was jairam (the actor who plays ponniyin selven/arunmozhi). This is an evolved film in terms of storytelling and this is what o expected out of mani ratnam sir.
