Fascinating history of early Dutch settlers in Manhattan told in a captivating way. The author was able to woven loads of historic facts (from the settlers diaries, letters, official communications, etc.) into an enjoyable read. Like all historical retelling, authors may add their own imagination. What makes Russell Shorto stand out is that he distinguished clearly between the facts and his imagination, so the readers would not have to guess which part is actual non-fiction. I love this book also for it is 99% real history, diligently researched, but not an imaginary fiction novel.
