MINOR SPOILERS ⚠️
Scoob! is an interesting movie. I'm an avid supporter for this style of animation and the change up of scenery, even the voice actors-- I was ready for a reboot of the series.
I want to start by saying the animation is quite beautiful and worth a watch to see the gang like that. However, the disappointment lies within the story. It was very much everywhere and eventually lost its "Scooby Doo" touch. The villain wasn't mysterious, the motive was pretty weak (if the guy just told the gang, they'd probably help him instead), and I have to say that there was too much "out of the realm of possibility" elements in this movie as a way to include other IPs. There's hovercrafts, AI robots, and the Greek Underworld to name a few. Scooby Doo is all about taking the impossible things they see and adding reason to it and finding the bad guy (wires, traps, smoke screen), but they all acted like spacecrafts and a secret island of cavemen are normal. At least show them being wowed and surprised.
While I appreciate the modern take, it was too futuristic for my tastes and didn't sit well with my suspension of belief. IMO the beginning was the best part, they solved a classic-like Scooby Doo mystery where the bad guy had a realistic motive and his tactic was smoke and wires.
And of couse, the lack of screen time for the gang was disappointing. The gang didn't have their quirkiness they usually do nor did they play off each other. (The best lines were showed in the trailer). And Shaggy felt out of character to me when he became very petty.
I understand that many of the crazy elements are references to other Hanna Barbera IPs, but it was too much. It lost the "Scooby Doo" touch and instead felt like "how many references can I fit in a scene".
All in all, I'm here for this Hanna Barbera cinematic universe, but I don't like the movie. It felt like a standard kids action movie with the Scooby gang. It could have been titled Blue Falcon feat. Scooby Doo and that would have been more accurate..
