Yet another “thriller” utterly lacking in dramatic credibility. One example: Keller’s no-nonsense persona is starkly incompatible with his indefensible devotion to a wife chronically unfaithful to him. So then, is Sean Penn’s character a tough guy or a wimp? And it only gets worse from there, as little time is spent trying to breathe life into any of the characters. What’s left is a suspense-filled (albeit unlikely) plot that runs its course completely bereft of meaningful interactions among the actors. Indeed, there is zero chemistry between the two central figures, Penn and Nicole Kidman.
