Sydney Jackson

This is a book of free verse poetry and it takes some thought to see the deeper meanings behind it, however I read this when I was 10 and have remembered it since then because of the profound impact it had on me. While a ten year old may not understand the grief of leaving their homeland and everything they have known, they can understand the sadness of a papaya taken too soon from a cut down tree. This book is definitely meaningful and I love how I can understand more of it now that I have more context. Would definitely recommend for all ages.
