The setting is very important to this Australian mystery. The outback almost becomes a main character. There is definitely a mystery that draws you in. However I found the characters very one dimensional and it took me about 80 pages to be drawn into the family and the tragedy of losing a brother, son, uncle and friend. Of course I kept reading to solve the mystery and the result is believable but slightly contrived. The theme of disjointed families that do not communicate with each other was well portrayed but the relationships and resolution left me doubting the reality of it all. I also found there was too much dialogue between characters rather than letting the beautiful Australian landscape speak for itself.
