This movie was walking down a straight hallway and felt like nothing was accomplished, except for doing a directional rehash of what the original films already did. The progression went backwards, and not only that, but it even went out of its way to neglect the serious dark cyberpunk elements that gave the franchise its charm. It could've done without the unnecessary quirkiness, out of the ballpark humor to take it into a whole other movie genre, the overwhelming amount of empowerment mantras (I love the cause but repetition chokes me), the overload of flashbacks from previous movies to serve as this movie's main crutch (rewatching the three other Matrix movies before this one is not even necessary), attempting to replicate the storyline that's been done already (like Star Wars: Force Awakens), etc.
On the flip side, every actor did their complete best throughout the movie. The nostalgia was the only thing that did it for me, but other than that, I felt that this script wasn't necessary.
