The movie is not authentic and it’s very ignorant. Little research was done about Africa, and Zambia.
Key ignorant statements:
— They kept referring to Zambia as Africa, making it seem like Africa is a country.
—The names of the staff members sounded foreign even for Zambians, and their accents sounded nothing like the locals.
—The languages spoken by the “locals” are not among the top languages in Zambia. For example, the staff spoke Swahili in some instances. In Lusaka, Nyanja or Bemba are the languages often used.
— Goat stew is not a staple in the Zambian Christmas tradition. Chicken is often prepared with rice. It’s not Christmas in Zambia without rice and chicken paired with orange soda (Fanta)
— The dress code and presents were weird. We give kids in Africa normal presents not weird objects that are made out of wood (I don’t even know what those gifts were..)
People in Zambia wear regular cloths. Traditional clothes or “attires” are only worn to traditional events like weddings and ceremonies... Not on Christmas Day.
Women often wear wraps (chitenges) paired with regular shirts..
— Don’t even get me started on the beer they kept flaunting around... In Zambia Mosi and Castle are the staples.
