Like more of the reviewers I’ve read on this show, I’m a long time fan of paranormal tv-the days of Paranormal State and the original Ghost Hunters crew being what I cut my teeth on. I’m just now getting into Ghost Adventures which isn’t terrible but mostly because nothing else is really on at the moment and their backlog is crazy! All that rambling to say, Destination Fear isn’t terrible in my opinion but for longevity I definitely think there is room for improvement. A lot of what I see complaints wise is the lack of actual ghost hunting and I think the show needs to do better at clarifying if that’s part of the show’s intention or is the focus mostly on the Fear aspect. The psychological toll of learning about a place, being there in the dead of night in the cold in a room and alone. If you’re going to carry investigative equipment, as viewers we expect that you’re going to be investigating something and want to see that! There is a lack of actual investigating-sure they’ll see if a word pops up on the little machine, ask some questions and see if they get a response but at times when they do get a response or hear a noise or whatever-they do nothing about it. Again, clarify for me what the point of the show is so I know if that’s something I should expect you to do or not..?! I think the locations the show has are great. Unlike a lot of viewers, I like the team and think they each bring their own perspective-though I’m waiting for the day Chelsea slaps her brother because sometimes he’s straight up rude! “Do something to spook my sister” as she walks down the solitary confinement hall in a prison where women are known to have been groped and disrespected! I think the packet aspect and not everyone knowing where the next location is, adds to the “let’s explore fear” element to the show so that’s fine. I like that the team splits up and sleeps alone. I think when trying to build a viewership they need to figure out the lane they want to be in. If you are more of a psychological show that happens to be paranormal light simply because you’re going to well known haunted places, that’s fine! Tell us that’s what it is. But for die hard paranormal tv fans who want to see you investigate the paranormal dont get us excited by pulling out equipment and then leave us disappointed by doing literally no actual investigative work.

I’ve been a watcher of paranormal tv for as long as I can remember! I remember watching and rewatching every single episode of Paranormal State once upon a time, then all the America’s Most Haunted’s and eventually finding Ghost Hunters. It was a game changer! I understand things happen and crews dismantle; it’s part of life for people to want to take breaks, move on..whatever. When I saw we were getting Ghost Nation I was excited. I’ve been watching it and watched the ‘Ghost Hunters’ that Grant kind of sort of brought back but didn’t always show up for and now I’m looking at Ghost Nation with a side eye. These guys are some of the pioneers so it hurts my soul when I finish an episode thinking, DANG I WISH DEAD FILES HAD A NEW EPISODE OUT! Or WHEN DOES THE HOZIER FILES come back on? Ghost Nation is missing the creepy factor. I understand they investigate more from the motivation to debunk so I don’t know if it’s the locations they’re choosing, the horrible voice overs, lack of equipment or what but honestly, other shows are doing it better. I get being one of the ‘old heads’ and wanting to stick to basics but you either keep up with the times or get left behind. Other shows are doing it better. I remember the episode of GN when Jason shows his disdain for Mediums and I kept thinking HAVE YOU NOT watched Amy in Dead Files? The woman is incredible. Destination Fear is a show that doesn’t use mediums but they have the creep factor because they literally plop themselves down in the middle of these haunted locations and spend the night. Part of the creepy factor in what we’re getting with some of these shows is using Mediums as a resource while also finding historical sources to back their claims. HELLO, Ghost Hunters turned Kindred Spirits, Amy and Adam dial up Chip ALL the time! Hell, I’ll even take Amy and Adams blindfold and headphones! What also hurts is seeing Josh Gates attached to this, I love that guy! Someone somewhere feels because these guys are respected and were the greats, that they deserve a spot based off that alone but someone on their team needs to tell them, the show SUCKS in comparison to other shows coming out. Step it up or hang it up guys. Sucks because the idea of this show is to help out other investigators and I feel embarrassed for these other investigators in the field. Jason, Steve and Tango come in and don’t solve ANYTHING!
