When I was in my teens, I bought an album by Basia before she was popularly known. Almost all my friends took me for a lunatic fringe because everyone was playing Motown dominated music.
And by the time the album Time & Tide became a hit, I had been playing it for a long time. It broke the mould and it was a bridge between Jazz, Pop & R&B.
This Jon Batiste album, World Music Radio, is one of the most innovative projects to ever be done in a very long time. A creative genius and a risk taker. What a fantastic evolution. In the same league as Quincy Jones albums Back on the Block and Q’s Jook Joint. I don’t say this lightly.
