⚠️Honest opinion⚠️
Don’t worry, this isn’t Satire. I know all of the honest reviews give this movie one star, but I genuinely loved this movie. Tbh the fart jokes got on my nerves but I honestly loved this movie. A guilty pleasure of mine is watching cringe movies like this. Yes, it is cringe. But I was laughing the entire movie. The goofy animation helped to pull along the movie’s theme. It also stayed cartoony throughout the whole movie, giving me scooby doo vibes.
Let’s start with the character of Marmaduke. I fell in love with him in his first scene. He’s just a big, goofy sweetheart. He clearly cares about his owners and is upset being distanced from him. At first, he’s hesitant about being trained. He doesn’t like change and wants to keep things the way they are. But, he shows determination when he steps up and starts to accept the training.
Now I want to talk about the cat. I really liked the cat’s character. Even though marmaduke is a dog, they still get along and the cat genuinely cares about Marmaduke. Later in the story when he lets Marmaduke save him, he was there as a loyal friend. A reputation cats hardly ever get.
Let’s talk about the trainer. He didn’t get much development. The most development he got is when it was revealed he had a crush on one of the judges. He wasn’t very interesting. Just the stereotypical cocky millionaire who comes out passionate in the end.
Lastly, I’ll talk about the villain. I liked the villain. He is clearly driven by his owners to do what he does and it’s a good representation of your guardian affecting how you act.
To finish the review off, I’m gonna say how much I appreciate Marmaduke not winning the championships. It makes since that a dog new to training wouldn’t win their very first try, and are beaten by a much more experienced contestant. This movie is so amazing because it’s ridiculous. It doesn’t make sense and it’s goofy, it reminded me of my own disobedient dog. Overall I liked this movie because it gave me nostalgia. Not a movie to go back and watch over and over in a year or two but one to remember.
